A month ago we welcome our third son, Broderick Charles Barlow into this world. Compared to his big brothers, he is our longest and heaviest baby. Something I had expected since he was a week past his New Years Eve due date. Additionally, his arrival was both a home birth and a planned vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Having never had the opportunity to labor, it was a personal goal of mine to experience a natural birth. Broderick was born during a wild time in our neighborhood of Santa Barbara. Having been expected to arrive during the Thomas Fires and in the end arriving two days before the Montecito Mudslides; Brock is our resilient and strong child.
Adjusting to being a family of five has had its fair shares of ups and downs. HB and Lewis are so happily in love with their little brother. They are always asking to hold Brock and give him kisses. I myself have been loving cuddling up to a newborn. Somehow I find his baby cries adorable and I go nuts over his baby scent! I could smell him all day! Although Jer wasn’t able to take paternity leave due to commitments at work; I’m incredibly thankful for the shorten work days he took and when he was home, that he stepped up to care for us all. Giving me the chance to make this video of Broderick’s first week and the opportunity to snap away a few pictures.
Shockingly I’m here 30 days later amazed that our son is now a month old. Brock’s several pounds heavier, an inch or so taller, can focus on where Mommy’s voice is coming from, and is even sharing a few smiles here and there for us to swoon over. I tell ya, I’m so in love with this little one; and so will you, he’s going to be front and center of my Instagram account real soon. 😉
